What is Lectio Divina?

A beautiful way to pray with the Holy Scriptures, Lectio Divina (“divine reading”) is an ancient practice that can be traced back to St. Gregory of Nyssa (c 330- 395), and St. Benedict of Nursia (c 480-547). The aim of Lectio Divina is union with God by reading the Bible in a prayerful way, reflecting on, responding to, and hearing God speaking personally and particularly to you.

How Lectio Divina Changes Your Life

In just 15–20 minutes a day, you can enter into Scripture, hear God’s voice, and bring peace into your home. This method of prayer (Lectio Divina) is a revolutionary practice, simple to learn and lifechanging.

People all over the world have used and are using Lectio Divina to grow in holiness and become who God created them to be.

As Saint Ambrose puts it, “When we take up the sacred Scriptures in faith and read them with the Church, we walk once more with God in the Garden”. Heaven is union with God, and we can begin to experience that on earth. Draw closer to Him through the Holy Scriptures and you will find yourself dipping your toes (or rather, reaching your fingertips) into Heaven, and into true happiness. Prayerfully reading the Words God Himself wrote helps us get to know Him, and fall in love with Him, and receive grace and guidance from Him. When we approach Scriptural prayer in this way, our hearts and our lives will be transformed by His grace.

The Lectio Divina Movement began out of a desire to walk alongside moms and equip and encourage them to grow closer to God. We seek to make the powerful tool of Lectio Divina accessible and do-able for moms, and eventually their spouses, children, prayer groups, and friends.
